YNDC is working on updating the Greater Glenwood Strategy to guide continued stabilization and revitalization in the neighborhoods connected by Glenwood Avenue. Stakeholder feedback from residents, business owners, visitors, and vital partners is critical for refining and prioritizing action plans that enhance neighborhood health, which includes addressing housing, safety, economic development, infrastructure and other key components.

We’d like to hear from you and how you currently interact with the Glenwood Avenue corridor, whether it is to visit friends and family, explore Mill Creek Metroparks, or support a local business.

Please take the survey here.

YNDC team members have installed 396 cameras this year through the Community Safety program throughout the 2nd Ward of Youngstown and on target new construction blocks across the city. Team members canvassed target areas and installed doorbell cameras at participating households. The program was created based on resident feedback to reduce crime, increase safety, and develop positive relationships with the Youngstown Police Department.

The Community Safety program works with residents, neighborhood groups and the police to build infrastructure among neighbors to prevent crime by building cooperation and mutual trust between residents, corridor business owners, and the police. The program establishes partnerships with households and businesses in violent crime hotspot areas in Youngstown to install doorbell cameras and installs new LED lighting at businesses along corridors in hotspot areas. The Community Safety program will also conduct meetings with residents and police and increase positive interaction with the Youngstown Police Department.

In July, WKBN reported neighbors’ frustration with the lack of cleanup at the McGuffey Mall site. Now, the site is seeing its first visual change in months.

Nick Chretian, director of planning and development with the Port Authority, said they are now making progress. They received a $100,000 grant from the state to find contamination on the site. As of September, Chretian says all of the contaminants that were found have been removed. Over the next few weeks, the Port Authority is working with the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation to plant trees along the perimeter of the site.
