Owner and Director of Happy Campers Learning Center, Tracy Jordan, has opened a new location, Happy Campers Too!!, at YNDC's Glenwood Plaza.
Happy Campers Too!! is a full-service, state-licensed learning center that holds a 5-star gold rating with the Department of Children and Youth. This location also has a pre-K department licensed by the Department of Education. The learning center enrolls children ages 6 weeks to 10 years and is actively seeking new enrollments. Jordan said the unit housing Happy Campers Too!! has recently been renovated with new bathroom facilities and security systems and remodeled to provide a safer, more effective learning environment.
Jordan said the location and the collaboration with YNDC were important to her and her mission. "I know the neighborhood. I know there are a lot of children here who weren't being served and weren't getting necessary resources such as childhood literacy opportunities and having a highly rated center in their neighborhood. The location is exciting and the partnership with YNDC means everything to us because they really are trying to revitalize our neighborhood."
"Working with families to build better communities" is Happy Campers' mission statement. Jordan is holding true to her mission by working directly with neighborhood parents to meet their needs. The new location operates from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers meals, snacks, and transportation for enrolled children. "We want to know our neighbors and their needs. Right now, we're operating from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., but if we discover during enrollment that the need is greater or that more parents work second or third shift, we would adjust because that's our goal, that's our mission."
Jordan's expansion to the Glenwood Plaza will provide eight new jobs in the City of Youngstown. Jordan said this project was supported by various small business loans and funding from Valley Partners, Huntington National Bank, private investors, and YNDC.
