Mural painting on Brentwood Ave.

On Sunday, August 29, 2010 Art Youngstown Inc. and the YNDC completed a mural on a garage at Brentwood Avenue and Colfax Street. The mural was part of a larger project to clean and green the lot which was an abandoned home until approximately six months ago.

YNDC hosted the first in a series of Healthy Neighborhoods Economic Opportunity Mixers on Thursday, August 26 at The Youngstown Historical Center of Labor and Industry. The mixer provided residents, homebuyers, entrepreneurs and others with information from YNDC’s partner organizations

Community Garden Meeting - Parkview Community Garden  What were once blighted buildings and weed-covered lots are now being transformed into tilled topsoil and fertilized planters for fresh produce in Idora Neighborhood on the south side of Youngstown. Bulldozers can be seen working at vacant sites all throughout the neighborhood, leveling and preparing land for conversion to gardens and public green space.

A new advantage is being offered for people who want to live around campus.

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation announced two healthy home ownership programs that will give down payment assistance up to $10,000 to people who are interested in purchasing a home in one of three neighborhoods. The deal could save students money and build equity.

Neighborhood SUCCESS Grants

The Raymond John Wean Foundation created the Neighborhood SUCCESS Grants Program to support grassroots groups in small community development projects that improve the quality of life in the neighborhoods of Warren and Youngstown, Ohio, particularly lower income neighborhoods and those at risk of destabilization.
Groups of residents as well as community, school and faith—based organizations are encouraged to apply. Grants of $500 to $5,000 are awarded to support the development and implementation of creative and impactful ideas.
