Creating Healthy Neighborhoods Through Innovative Programs

The YNDC’s programs help neighbors regain control of their communities and restore a sense of pride. And the YNDC is committed to developing new programs, too, so residents always have the right tools for strengthening Youngstown’s neighborhoods.

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) offers a homeownership training and incentive program to increase the number of successful and healthy homeowners.

Our Focus Neighborhoods provide great homeownership opportunities.  Located in asset rich areas within the City of Youngstown, our neighborhoods offer close proximity to parks, a vibrant downtown, Youngstown State University, museums and more! The Green Homes program restores formerly vacant and foreclosed properties to new life. Green Homes properties are fully renovated utilizing the Enterprise Foundation’s Green Communities Criteria and Mahoning County LEAP Healthy Home Standards.

The YNDC is currently developing a Community Loan Fund (CLF) to provide alternative access to credit in underserved communities and to bolster continued revitalization and economic recovery in vulnerable and transitional neighborhoods.

Lots of Green is an innovative vacant land reuse program focused on comprehensively reactivating vacant land in the focus neighborhoods where YNDC operates.

Lots of Green 2.0 - A Call for Innovation is a citywide competition that will ignite vacant land reuse projects and empower neighborhood groups to participate in neighborhood revitalization.

Many of Youngstown’s neighborhoods suffer from limited access to healthy fresh food. YNDC has begun comprehensive efforts to reintroduce healthy food options to city neighborhoods.
