Creating Healthy
Neighborhoods Through Innovative Programs
The YNDC’s programs help neighbors
regain control of their communities and restore a sense of pride. And the YNDC
is committed to developing new programs, too, so residents always have the
right tools for strengthening Youngstown’s neighborhoods.
The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) offers a homeownership training and incentive program to increase the number of successful and healthy homeowners.
Our Focus Neighborhoods provide great homeownership opportunities.
Located in asset rich areas within the City of Youngstown, our neighborhoods offer close proximity to parks, a vibrant downtown, Youngstown State University, museums and more! Download a description of each home as well as a photo of each home on this page.
The Green Homes program restores formerly vacant and foreclosed properties
to new life. Green Homes properties are fully renovated utilizing the
Enterprise Foundation’s Green Communities Criteria and Mahoning County LEAP
Healthy Home Standards.
The YNDC is
currently developing a Community Loan Fund (CLF) to provide alternative access
to credit in underserved communities and to bolster continued revitalization
and economic recovery in vulnerable and transitional neighborhoods.
Lots of Green is an innovative vacant land reuse program focused on comprehensively
reactivating vacant land in the focus neighborhoods where YNDC operates.
Lots of Green 2.0 - A Call for Innovation
is
a citywide competition thatwill
ignite vacant land reuse projects and empower neighborhood groups to
participate in neighborhood revitalization.
Many of Youngstown’s
neighborhoods suffer from limited access to healthy fresh food. YNDC has begun
comprehensive efforts to reintroduce healthy food options to city
neighborhoods.
The Grey to Green job training program is an innovative program that benefits
unemployed and/or underemployed residents of urban neighborhoods in the City of
Youngstown.
While notable neighborhood
improvements resulting from the YNDC programs will certainly catapult a
positive image of certain city pockets into the greater community, we will
begin building a positive image of these neighborhoods now through external and
internal marketing efforts
The Model Blocks Program is a focused neighborhood development
program that seeks to comprehensively address physical conditions on targeted
blocks in YNDC focus neighborhoods.
