Art Continues to Spread Through Idora Neighborhood

On Sunday, August 29, 2010 Art Youngstown Inc. and the YNDC completed a mural on a garage at Brentwood Avenue and Colfax Street. The mural was part of a larger project to clean and green the lot which was an abandoned home until approximately six months ago.

Idora Neighborhood Association Unveils Welcome to Idora Mural

Over 75 people turned out for the unveiling of the Welcome to Idora Mural. The mural project was spearheaded by the Idora Neighborhood Association in collaboration with Art Youngstown and the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation. The mural was designed to look like a stained glass mosaic and reads “Welcome to the Idora Neighborhood”.

Idora Gardeners Learn to Build Healthy Soil and Maintain Vibrant Gardens

Fifteen Idora gardeners participated in the Healthy Soil, Identifying Insects, and Organic Controls Workshop hosted by YNDC and taught by Maurice Small, Action Hero. The workshop was held at the Rescue Mission and Brentwood Avenue Community Garden. Gardeners were trained in effective techniques to build healthy soil including the use of compost and worms.

Idora Residents and Volunteers Use Art to Transform Blight

Fifty residents and volunteers took to the street on Brentwood Avenue to transform four blighted structures! The vacant structures were located on the block around the Brentwood Avenue Community Garden. Residents installed painted plywood to secure and beautify the structures.
