A strategic partnership between YNDC, ServeOhio, and the City of Youngstown, the AmeriCorps REVITALIZE Project is Youngstown’s front line in the effort to FIGHT BLIGHT in our neighborhoods.
The AmeriCorps REVITALIZE project engages 10 city residents in a year of full-time community service, where members works daily to board up and clean up vacant homes in neighborhoods across the city. Regular activities include clearing overgrowth, mowing overgrown yards, clearing trash and debris, removing tires, and boarding unsecured doors and windows.
To date, the team has improved hundreds of vacant properties in neighborhoods on all four sides of town and in all seven wards. The team’s base of operations is the YNDC Community Workshop, a heated facility designed for cutting and painting boards efficiently year-round.
In addition to boarding and cleaning up vacant properties, AmeriCorps members serving on the REVITALIZE team also rehabilitate vacant homes and help community groups repurpose vacant lots periodically throughout the year.
