AmeriCorps REVITALIZE Project

A strategic partnership between YNDC, ServeOhio, and the City of Youngstown, the AmeriCorps REVITALIZE Project is Youngstown’s front line in the effort to FIGHT BLIGHT in our neighborhoods.

The AmeriCorps REVITALIZE project engages city residents looking to gain construction and landscaping experience in up to a year of full-time community service, where members clean up and improve vacant properties and community spaces. Regular activities include clearing overgrowth and debris from vacant properties, mowing overgrown yards, cleaning up and replacing broken sidewalks on neighborhood corridors, removing illegally dumped tires, boarding and securing vacant structures, and cleaning out vacant homes for rehabilitation. Since the program began in September 2014, AmeriCorps REVITALIZE team members have helped YNDC to improve thousands of vacant properties in virtually every neighborhood on all four sides of town and in all seven wards.

Members serve approximately 40 hours per week for a 3 to 6 month term, with an option to serve an additional term with good performance. Members receive a living allowance of approximately $1,000 per month to help make ends meet while serving. Upon successful completion of service, members are eligible to receive a Segal Education Award, which can be used to pay for college or student loans. Please see the flyer for further information!
