The German Marshall Fund of the United States, in collaboration with the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) and Lien Forward Ohio (LFO), hosted a workshop titled Developing Integrated, Transformative Investment Strategies in Youngstown. The workshop was held at YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration and attendees included: Mayor Jay Williams, Youngstown City Council, city department heads, and other key civic and business leaders from anchors and community organizations. The purpose of the workshop was to engage city and civic leaders using case-study presentations and facilitated discussions to address the following questions:
Participants heard remarks from Mayor Jay Williams and listened to best practice case studies from Greta Harris. presenting on the nationally recognized Neighborhoods in Bloom program implemented in Richmond, Virginia and Dominic Robinson on the Northside Urban Partnership in Syracuse, New York. Both of their powerpoint presentations are available to download below. Attendees also participated in discussions facilitated by community development expert Allan Mallach and Scot Spencer of the Annie Casey Foundation. The next step is to develop a process to create a coherent, focused community development strategy for Youngstown.
