YNDC Awarded $1K for MLK Day Clean-up - The Business Journal

Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. has been awarded a $1,000 grant by ServeOhio to support its neighborhood work day Jan. 15.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the community improvement corporation, along with AmeriCorps Vista and AmeriCorps State, will lead volunteers in boarding up vacant houses and cleaning lots in the Cottage Grove neighborhood on the city’s south side. Volunteers will meet at the 100 block of E. Judson Avenue at 8:30 a.m. Supplies and refreshment will be provided. ServeOhio is the state’s commission on community service and volunteerism. The organization also announced six other $1,000 grant awards for community projects that will take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Columbus, Parma and Springfield. “As the need for service continues to grow, we honor Dr. King by supporting local organizations that give back and make a real impact on our communities,” said William Hall, ServeOhio executive director, in a release. “Ohio volunteers will use the power of service to make a difference in our local communities.” The grants are supported by Honda of America and AEP Ohio.
